Basketball Recap: Van Horn Eagles vs. Marfa Shorthorns
The Van Horn Eagles won the last time they faced the Marfa Shorthorns, and things went their way on Friday too. Van Horn came out on top in a nail-biter against the Shorthorns and snuck past 30-27.
Van Horn's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taylor Martinez, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played. Malia Bermudez was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Van Horn pushed their record up to 17-8 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Marfa, Big Bend, and Fort Davis. As for Marfa, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
Van Horn will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Indians at 6:00 p.m. Fort Davis is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Marfa, they will head out on the road to challenge the Roadrunners at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Big Bend comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
