Alaska high school basketball team heroic in apartment fire

In Anchorage for state tournament, Sitka basketball team helps residents escape tragedy.

The Sitka boys basketball team hopes to win Alaska's Class 3A state title this weekend.

But win or lose, the Wolves will go home heroes.

Wednesday in Anchorage – site of the ASAA 3A/4A state tournaments – members of the team spotted a fire in an apartment complex and jumped into action by alerting residents and escorting others to safety, according to a report by CBS News and affiliate KTVA-TV.

No injuries were reported but 25 residents were displaced.



Sitka (14-9) opens the 3A state tournament Thursday against Grace Christian (Anchorage).
