Baseball Game Preview: Aquilla Cougars vs. Gholson

The Aquilla Cougars will challenge Gholson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Aquilla is headed into the match having just suffered their closest loss since April 12, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Jonesboro by a score of 6-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Ryan Hill was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Hill was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. Aquilla is 3-1 when Hill posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-5 otherwise.

Hill wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brodey Woodward, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Woodward has become a key player for Aquilla: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-4 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Gholson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 24-8 to Oglesby.

Aquilla's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Gholson, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Aquilla took their win against Gholson when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 22-2. Does Aquilla have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gholson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
