The ALA - Gilbert North Eagles will take on the Dobson Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
ALA - Gilbert North is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Desert Edge, who was ranked tenth at the time (ALA - Gilbert North was ranked 22nd). The Eagles came up short against the Scorpions on Friday, falling 29-7. Having soared to a lofty 42 points in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Even if they lost, ALA - Gilbert North's defense still kept up the pressure with 3.5 sacks. Gaven McKinney was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. ALA - Gilbert North got some further help from Zyon Leuluai: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made eight total tackles.
Meanwhile, Dobson blew past Central, posting a 36-9 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
ALA - Gilbert North better keep an eye on Preston Brunsvold. He was instrumental in Dobson's win, throwing for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 42 yards. Those 42 rushing yards gave Brunsvold a new career-high. Joriyn Winston got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Dobson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Dobson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Tremaine Turner, Jonathan Belsito, and Micah Newcombe picked up one apiece.
The win got Dobson back to even at 2-2. As for ALA - Gilbert North, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. ALA - Gilbert North has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 175.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Dobson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 164 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
