Baseball Recap: Merced Comes Up Short

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Merced's offense. They fell 3-0 to the Atwater Falcons on Wednesday. The Bears have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Conner Vitelli spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

Merced's loss dropped their record down to 6-17. As for Atwater, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5-1 record this season.

While Merced had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
