Basketball Preview: Midview Middies vs. Elyria Pioneers
Midview hasn't had much luck against Elyria recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Midview Middies are taking a road trip to take on the Elyria Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.
Midview is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 78-75 win over Avon on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Middies as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.
Brady Newton was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. He is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Young, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 18 points.
Meanwhile, Elyria had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 58-48. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Eagles are ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Midview better keep an eye on Kendyll Compton. He was instrumental in Elyria's win, shooting 4-for-6 from deep and almost dropping a double-double on 24 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Crutcher, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 15 points.
Elyria's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Midview, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-9.
