Softball Recap: Streator Takes a Loss

Streator extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 8-21 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Normal Community Ironmen. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Ironmen this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 on Saturday.

Makenna Ondrey was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. Ondrey was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mya Zavada was cooking despite her team's loss, earning one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Alexcia Middleton, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Normal Community, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games.

On Normal Community's side, Bailey Engel was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Engel has posted since back in April. Tatum Yokley was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Streator will face off against East Peoria at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Normal Community, they will host Washington at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Ironmen surely won't give up without a fight.
