Basketball Recap: Wiggins Tigers vs. Caliche Buffaloes
The Wiggins Tigers were the 68-35 winner over the Caliche Buffaloes when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Wiggins took a 57-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Buffaloes on Saturday.
Despite the loss, Wiggins still got an impressive performance from Riley Hunt, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Hunt is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Kennedy Kerr was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six assists and three steals.
Even though they lost, Wiggins smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Caliche to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Karsyn Huss, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Wiggins now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Caliche, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-5.
Wiggins will head out on the road to take on the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Akron and the Tigers are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Caliche, they and the Mustangs will face off at 4:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Prairie's defense has only allowed 29.5 points per game this season, so the Buffaloes' offense will have their work cut out for them.
