Basketball Recap: Wheeler Comes Up Short

Wheeler lost against Walnut back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Wheeler Eagles lost to the Walnut Wildcats at home by a 53-38 margin. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Wildcats are ranked 31st).

Despite the loss, Wheeler still got an impressive performance from Macie Arnold, who went 8 for 13 on her way to 17 points and eight steals. The dominant performance gave Arnold a new career-high in steals. Emma Kate Beckham was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Wheeler's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Walnut, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

Wheeler won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Jumpertown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Walnut, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Belmont at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Belmont has won four straight at home, while Walnut won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
