Basketball Recap: Brylee Minnick's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Decatur Community over Southwest

Decatur Community lost against Southwest back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Decatur Community Red Devils took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southwest Roughriders.

Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brylee Minnick, who posted 16 points along with seven boards and four steals. That was a full 36.4% of Decatur Community's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Fortin, who earned seven points along with six assists and five boards.

Southwest found their leader in freshman Aspen Billeter, who went 8 of 12 on her way to 18 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Billeter is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. Allison Vanpelt was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.

Decatur Community's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Southwest, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

Decatur Community wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 59-14 victory against Hill City on the 17th. As for Southwest, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-36 win against Alma on the 17th.
