Baseball Game Preview: Summit Academy Knights vs. Union Area Scotties

Summit Academy hasn't had much luck against Union Area recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Knights will challenge the Scotties at 4:00 p.m. Summit Academy has given up an average of 16.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Summit Academy is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 24th straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They lost 15-0 to Homer-Center.

Meanwhile, Union Area won against Aquinas Academy on Tuesday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Scotties came out on top against the Crusaders by a score of 8-4. With that victory, the Scotties brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Cole Harper was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Swayze Reighert, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Dom Cucitrone was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Union Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in three consecutive games.

Union Area's record now sits at 5-7. As for Summit Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.

Summit Academy suffered a grim 23-0 defeat to Union Area in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
