Baseball Recap: Stoughton Has No Trouble Against Belleville

After only one run in their last contest, Stoughton made sure to put some runs up on the board against Belleville on Monday. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Wildcats. The Vikings not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12th (when they won 20-9).

Givon Storkson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Stoughton: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Saxton Wiest was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Stoughton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-13 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Colyn Kotlowski, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Stoughton's record now sits at 7-13. As for Belleville, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stoughton will challenge Sauk Prairie at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Belleville, they will take on Waterloo at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games the Pirates have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
