Newman Grove/St. Edward scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a blow against the Burwell Longhorns, falling 77-40. The defeat leaves the Panthers without a win on the season.

Burwell found their leader in freshman Laurel Mann, who went 10 of 19 on her way to 29 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mann has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karsyn Bower, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 16 points and three steals.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Burwell, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

After both having extra time off, Newman Grove/St. Edward and Neligh-Oakdale will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Burwell, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-23 defeat against Anselmo-Merna on the 21st.
