Football Recap: Baker Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Baker had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Vernon Yellowjackets, posting a 48-6 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Gators just coasted through the last quarter.

Baker had a senior duo take command as Justice Baldwin threw for 206 yards and four TDs while completing 90% of his passes and Riley Renfro picked up 143 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Wyatt Straight helped Baldwin out on the ground, rushing for 35 yards and a pair of scores, while also picking up 32 receiving yards.

Baker was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 222 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Baker will take on Destin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vernon, they will face off against Liberty County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
