Recap: Powell County Pirates vs. Wolfe County Wolves
The Powell County Pirates pushed their score all the way to 69 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 77-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wolfe County. Powell County has not had much luck with Wolfe County recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wolfe County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Corey Flinchum, who scored 25 points along with seven assists and three steals. The game was Flinchum's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of David Brown, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds.
Powell County's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Wolfe County, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Powell County will finish 2023 at home by hosting Raceland at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Wolfe County and Holy Cross will round out the year against one another at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Holy Cross presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wolfe County in Kentucky (Holy Cross is ranked 50th, while Wolfe County is ranked 144th).
