League recap: Wyoming Valley West moves into state Top 25

Wyoming Valley West was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Delaware Valley. The Spartans came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 45 last week.

James M. Coughlin moved up to 218 from 251 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Wyoming Valley 1. The Crusaders were able to make move up by besting Hazleton 26-16.

Wyoming Valley West's dynamic duo of Michael Baur and Michael Sands proved tough for the Warriors to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Baur threw for 152 yards and Sands had 121 yards receiving. Jeremy Kozich helped Wyoming Valley West's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 43 yards.

Pat Keating's team's dynamic duo of Baur and Sands proved to be unstoppable against Delaware Valley, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Baur put up the best numbers in passing as the Spartans defeated Keith Olsommer's team.

Tanner Kahlau was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 176 yards as Crestwood topped the Warriors. Frank Aigeldinger also contributed to the rushing game with 109 yards on the ground.

Sands was the best wideout in the league this week as the Spartans bested Delaware Valley.

Leading Wyoming Valley 1 in both passing and receiving yards, Wyoming Valley West's Baur and Sands have proven to be a lethal combination. Baur has thrown for 337 yards this season, while Sands has 8 catches for 170 yards. Kahlau from the Comets leads the league in rushing with 273 yards.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Dallas takes on Berwick. At the moment, the Mountaineers are in ninth, while the Bulldogs are in third.

Crestwood was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, Greg Myers' team triumphed over North Pocono 40-21.
