Softball Game Preview: Mineola Yellowjackets vs. Redwater Dragons

The Mineola Yellowjackets will face off against the Redwater Dragons at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mineola knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Redwater likes a good challenge.

Mineola is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They beat White Oak by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-3. The Yellowjackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 matches by six runs or more this season.

Mahayla McMahon was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one home run the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Courtney Nguyen, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Mineola was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .406 or higher in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Redwater was able to grind out a solid win over Jefferson on Saturday, taking the game 12-8. That's two games straight that the Dragons have won by exactly four runs.

Mineola has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 19-11-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Redwater, their win bumped their record up to 13-17-1.

Mineola took their victory against Redwater in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. Will the Yellowjackets repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
