Basketball Recap: Serra Catholic Continues Road Dominance on Friday

After losing to Monessen the last time they met, Serra Catholic decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Serra Catholic Eagles rang in the new year with a 63-50 win over the Monessen Greyhounds on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Serra Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Owen Dumbroski, who went 10 for 21 on his way to 26 points in addition to eight assists and five steals. Dumbroski has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Johnson, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 15 points along with six assists and five boards.

Serra Catholic's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.9 points per game. As for Monessen, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4.

Serra Catholic and Monessen should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. Serra Catholic (ranked 152nd) will meet St. Joseph (ranked 541st) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Serra Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.5 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Monessen (ranked 236th) will meet Environmental Charter (ranked 703rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
