Basketball Recap: Bryan Lozano Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Skyview

There's no place like home for Gateway, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 62-46 win over the Skyview Wolverines on Thursday. That's more bragging rights for the Olympians, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Gateway got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Bryan Lozano out in front who went 7 for 13 on his way to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. Lozano is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nickalus Smith, who went 7 of 12 en route to 17 points and seven steals.

Despite the loss, Skyview saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Robin Campos Laos went 6 for 12 on his way to 16 points. The dominant performance also gave Campos Laos a new career-high in assists (three). Jacob Trujillo also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first boards of the season.

Gateway's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-10. As for Skyview, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Gateway has already played their next game, an 86-74 defeat against Silver Creek on the 25th. As for Skyview, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Thornton at 7:00 p.m. Thornton will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Skyview surely won't give up without a fight.
