Basketball Recap: Escalante Comes Up Short

After flying high against Freedom Prep Academy last Friday, Escalante came back down to earth. The Escalante Moquis were dealt a 77-40 defeat at the hands of the Piute Thunderbirds on Wednesday. The Moquis were not able to make up for their loss to the Thunderbirds from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Several Moquis players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kannon Lyman, who posted ten points. The dominant performance gave Lyman a new career-high in points. Jaxen Cottam was another key player, putting up ten points.

Escalante's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Piute, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Escalante wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 89-50 victory against Monument Valley on the 31st. As for Piute, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-64 win against Millard on the 1st.
