Baseball Recap: Mescalero Apache Takes a Loss

Mescalero Apache had lost six straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-13 to make it seven. They lost 14-4 to the Lordsburg Mavericks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Chiefs have suffered against the Mavericks since April 28, 2023.

As for Lordsburg, their record now sits at 7-10. The result was nothing new for the Mavericks, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Lordsburg's part, Daniel Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Scott has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Lordsburg: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Lordsburg got a big performance out of Jeremy Jacquez, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Jacquez is becoming a predictor of the Mavericks' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jesus Reyes, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

While Mescalero Apache had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
