Baseball Recap: Tellico Plains' Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Tellico Plains's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Gibbs Eagles 5-4.

John Broad spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Dawson Edwards and Rylan Saffles did most of the damage at the plate: Edwards went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Saffles went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Edwards has become a key player for Tellico Plains: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-9 otherwise. Ike Hollinghead also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Tellico Plains' win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-11. As for Gibbs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-11 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tellico Plains will square off against Copper Basin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Gibbs, they will challenge Scott at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles will also cruise into their next matchup with the timing on their side: the Highlanders will have lost three straight heading into Saturday's game.
