Baseball Recap: Batesville Extends Winning Streak to Three

Batesville extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping their season record up to 19-5 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Greensburg Pirates. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-3 back in April.

As for Greensburg, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For Greensburg's part, Chase Tekulve spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. Tekulve has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cy Miller made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Ethan Smith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Batesville and Greensburg should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Bulldogs will face off against Franklin County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (32 vs. 188). Meanwhile, Greensburg (ranked 57th) will meet North Decatur (ranked 227th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
