Basketball Recap: Red Mountain Takes a Loss

Red Mountain has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to the Mesa Jackrabbits at home by a 37-22 margin on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jackrabbits this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-42 two weeks ago.

Despite the loss, Red Mountain still got an impressive performance from Payton Westra, who posted seven points and 14 boards. Westra is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Audrey Pacheco, who put up no points along with four steals and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Red Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matchups.

Taylor Morris continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mesa, putting up 13 points in addition to eight boards and five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlee Straub, who scored 11 points.

Red Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Mesa, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-10 record this season.

Red Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-18 victory against Westwood on the 12th. As for Mesa, they have also already played their next matchup, a 49-38 win against Mountain View on the 13th.
