Baseball Recap: Maricopa Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Canyon del Oro, Maricopa was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Mountain View Mountain Lions 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted since March 8th.

Connor Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Maricopa saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Travis Varela, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Varela has become a key player for the Rams: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-8 otherwise. Brandon Brewer was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Maricopa's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-10. As for Mountain View, their loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-12.

Maricopa will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mountain Lions: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
