Preview: Cardinal O'Hara Hawks vs. St. Mary's Lancers
The Cardinal O'Hara Hawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the St. Mary's Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Two weeks ago, Cardinal O'Hara was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-39 to St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute. While losing is never fun, Cardinal O'Hara can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute is ranked 220th).
Despite the defeat, Cardinal O'Hara got a solid performance out of Kels Ivey, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Simmarion Threet, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
St. Mary's suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. Their tough 78-53 loss to Nichols might stick with them for a while. St. Mary's has not had much luck with Nichols recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Cardinal O'Hara has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for St. Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Cardinal O'Hara came up short against St. Mary's in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 73-65. Can Cardinal O'Hara avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
