Basketball Recap: Springfield Piles Up the Points Against Amite

While Springfield didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat the Amite Warriors 69-42. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Warriors are ranked 277th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Springfield's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dequane Davis, who posted 16 points in addition to six assists and five steals. The matchup was Davis' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Chase Burches, who put up 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Springfield's record now sits at 9-7. As for Amite, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season.

Springfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 39-37 win against Loranger on the 8th. Amite has also already played their next matchup, a 79-74 defeat against Franklinton on the 7th.
