Recap: Roosevelt Roughriders vs. Leonardtown Raiders

The Roosevelt Roughriders struggled with threes on Saturday (the Leonardtown Raiders had five more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Roosevelt took a 45-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Leonardtown. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Roosevelt came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked tenth in District of Columbia, while Leonardtown is ranked 68th in Maryland).

Several Roughriders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Simmons Taniesha, who scored 11 points along with three steals. The game was Taniesha's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lamar'sha Wilson, who scored nine points along with six steals and five rebounds.

Teonne Thomas was the offensive standout of the game as she dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbey Robrecht, who scored 15 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Roosevelt and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Leonardtown, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will square off against Woodson at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Leonardtown, they will head out on the road to face off against Urbana at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
