Football Recap: East Wilkes Takes a Loss

East Wilkes lost against Mount Airy back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cardinals took a 23-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Granite Bears. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 194th, while the Granite Bears are ranked 49th).

Despite the loss, East Wilkes still got an impressive performance from Austin Nash, who rushed for 82 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. Nash got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 58 yards. Reece Dobbins got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

East Wilkes' defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Mount Airy, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

East Wilkes didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-14 victory against North Iredell on the 5th. As for Mount Airy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 61-7 loss against Watauga on the 5th.
