Preview: Altamont Longhorns vs. Rich Rebels
Altamont is 2-8 against Rich since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Altamont Longhorns just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Rich Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Altamont has struggled recently with 13 losses in a row, while Rich will arrive with seven straight victories.
On Thursday, Altamont was beaten by Tabiona 70-32. While losing is never fun, Altamont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Tabiona is ranked 47th).
Meanwhile, even though Tintic scored an imposing 57 points on Saturday, Rich still came out on top. Rich strolled past Tintic with points to spare, taking the game 74-57. Rich pushed the score to 60-39 by the end of the third, a deficit Tintic cut but never quite recovered from.
Rich got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaden Desch out in front who shot 5-for-9 from deep and dropped a triple-double on 23 points, 18 rebounds, and ten assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Desch has scored all season. Ridge Lundgren was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Altamont's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Rich, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.
Altamont might still be hurting after the 65-41 defeat they got from Rich when the teams last played back in January. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Altamont was down 40-14.
