Baseball Game Preview: James Monroe Yellow Jackets vs. Caroline Cavaliers

James Monroe hasn't had much luck against Caroline recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

James Monroe played against Eastern View on Tuesday and lost via forfeit.

Caroline is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Courtland just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cavaliers have suffered since March 25th.

Austin Carter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alex Thomas was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Caroline's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Baylor Storke was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

James Monroe is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8. As for Caroline, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.

James Monroe might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Caroline when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
