 The Sparta Bulldogs will look to defend their home field  on Monday against the Chester Yellowjackets at 4:30  p.m. Given that  the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this  game.
 On Saturday, it was a hard-fought  match, but Sparta had to settle for  a  4-3 defeat against Marissa/Coulterville. Sparta has not had much luck with Marissa/Coulterville recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
  James Pillers made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  went 1-for-3 with a  stolen base and two  RBI.
 Meanwhile, Chester didn't have quite enough to beat Murphysboro on Saturday and fell  4-2. Chester has now  taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
  Tray Peters put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound,   pitching three innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   one  hit. Peters was also solid in the batter's box,  getting on base  in all three of his plate appearances with a  stolen base.
 In other batting news,  Evan Bland made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 2-for-4.
 Sparta's loss dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Chester, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-17-2.
 Sparta beat Chester 5-1  when the teams last played  two weeks ago. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was  Chester's  Evan Dunning, who   pitched six innings while giving up  three earned  (and two unearned) runs off   five  hits.
