Football Recap: Erwin Warriors vs. Brevard Blue Devils
After losing to Brevard the last time they met, Erwin decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Erwin Warriors took down the Brevard Blue Devils 56-42 on Friday.
Deajaha Ray had a dynamite game for Erwin, rushing for 310 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also catching a touchdown. Ray really tore up the turf during one magnificent 81-yard run. Caden Ingle was another key player, throwing for 421 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.5 yards per attempt.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Erwin was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 325 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
Erwin wouldn't let Brevard keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Erwin can thank Lawson Reynolds and Judah Dayton for forcing both of them. Reynolds also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing a fumble, making 20 total tackles, and defending a pass.
Braylon Thompson and Nyrell Skinner certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Thompson rushed for 171 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.5 yards per carry, while Skinner rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. Eli Griffin got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Erwin now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Brevard, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.
Erwin will host West Henderson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Henderson has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 119 points over their last three contests. As for Brevard, they will venture away from home to face off against North Buncombe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran up and down the field in their prior games.
