Baseball Recap: Perry Central Comes Up Short

Perry Central extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-6-1. They fell 8-3 to the Springs Valley Blackhawks. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Carter Ball was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Wyatt Peckinpaugh also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Springs Valley, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On Springs Valley's side, Mackey Lowe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Braylon Kovas, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hunter Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Coming up, Perry Central will take on Heritage Hills at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Springs Valley, they will square off against Trinity Lutheran at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blackhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
