Softball Recap: Fairhope Comes Up Short

Fairhope fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Gulf Shores on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Gulf Shores Dolphins by a score of 8-7. If the Pirates were looking for revenge after losing 5-2 to them when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lily Guimarin spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on 11 hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Mia Gates stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Anna Bumpers was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Fairhope and nudges their season record down to 1-2. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Gulf Shores, they pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairhope will welcome Robertsdale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
