Basketball Recap: Aurora West College Prep Academy Takes a Loss

Aurora West College Prep Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 30th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Addenbrooke Classical Academy Mustangs, falling 71-18. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while the Mustangs are ranked 96th).

Aurora West College Prep Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Setou Sy, who posted eight points, and Maria Gutierrez Benitez, who earned three points along with five rebounds and three steals. Gutierrez Benitez is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Lucia Rodriguez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten steals for Addenbrooke Classical Academy. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Trujillo, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 11 points.

Aurora West College Prep Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Addenbrooke Classical Academy, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Aurora West College Prep Academy will square off against Poudre Community Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Aurora West College Prep Academy is facing Poudre Community Academy at the right time seeing as Poudre Community Academy is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Addenbrooke Classical Academy, they will challenge Rocky Mountain Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Addenbrooke Classical Academy's defense has only allowed 23.5 points per game this season, so Rocky Mountain Lutheran's offense will have their work cut out for them.
