Basketball Recap: Clark Comes Up Short

Clark has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were beaten by the Johnson Jaguars 79-44 on Saturday. The Cougars lost against the Jaguars in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 52-43 score last time.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaden Flemons, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 10 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kristian Burgan, who posted eight points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Clark smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Ian Rizo was a one-man wrecking crew for Johnson as he went 8 for 12 en route to 19 points. The dominant performance gave Rizo a new career-high in points. Marc Anthony was another key player, going 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points.

Clark's loss dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Johnson, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-8.

Clark wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-47 victory against LEE on the 22nd. As for Johnson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-46 win against Brandeis on the 22nd.
