Basketball Recap: Highland Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Highland, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They strolled past the Mascoutah Indians with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 53-34. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Indians are ranked 430th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Avery Boehm, who went 5 for 12 en route to 16 points and five rebounds. That's the most boards Boehm has posted since back in November of 2024. Harper Whitworth was another key player, putting up ten points and six rebounds.

Highland's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-12. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Mascoutah, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.

Highland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 44-43 win against Carlyle on the 18th. Mascoutah has also already played their next contest, a 36-21 loss against Wesclin on the 20th.
