MaxPreps 2017 Virginia preseason high school softball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

Atlee remains the team to beat, but also watch out for Warhill, Lee-Davis, Osbourn Park and Bishop O'Connell in the Virginia softball #MaxPrepsFab5.

2017 Virginia Preseason Softball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

1. Bishop O'Connell (Arlington)
2016 record: 23-5
Head coach: Tommy Orndorf

The Knights enter this season as the No. 14 team in the MaxPreps preseason Xcellent 50 National High School Softball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard and have high expectations. Virginia commit Patty Maye Ohanian set single-season school records at Lake Braddock (Burke, Va.) last year with 63 hits and nine home runs. The Knights' stacked offense also brings back All-State selections Caitlin Jorae (batted .452), Kathryn Sandercock (fanned 211 in 144 innings) and Leah Hammes (batted .385).

2. Atlee (Mechanicsville)
2016 record: 27-2
Head coach: John Earley



Atlee racked up 27 wins and nabbed the Virginia Division 5A state title last season. The Raiders return Virginia Tech commit Casey Barrett, who hit a key home run in the state title game last year.

3. Warhill (Williamsburg)
2016 record: 26-1
Head coach: Tom Bunn

Warhill completed last season by capturing the Virginia Division 3A state championship. Keely Rochard will be a force in the circle after posting a 25-1 record with a 0.72 ERA. Kieran McClure will spearhead the offense after notching 30 RBIs.

4. Lee-Davis (Mechanicsville)
2016 record: 25-2
Head coach: Jackie Davis

Lee-Davis recorded 25 wins and reached the Virginia Division 5A state semifinals last season. Sydney Guess will head the offensive attack after batting .453 with 21 RBIs.

5. Osbourn Park (Manassas)
2016 record: 25-3
Head coach: Tim Garner

The Yellowjackets claimed the Virginia Division 6A state title last year. Emily Weatherholtz will be tough to crack after logging a 23-1 record with a 0.64 ERA. Sydney Lascola will lead the offensive charge after batting .596 with 45 RBIs.
