Softball Recap: Marana Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Marana, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Everything went their way against the West Point Dragons on Wednesday as they made off with a 15-5 win. Considering the Tigers have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Emma Winter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bella Sanchez and Kyla Layton did most of the damage at the plate: Sanchez went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Layton went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Sanchez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooke Beck, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Marana always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Marana's victory bumped their record up to 15-11. As for West Point, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-9.

Marana didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-4 defeat against Tucson High Magnet School on the 17th. As for West Point, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 8-0 loss against Tolleson on the 22nd.
