Softball Game Preview: Barbers Hill Eagles vs. Melissa Cardinals

The Barbers Hill Eagles will take on the Melissa Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Barbers Hill comes in on eight and Melissa on three.

Barbers Hill is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Smithson Valley get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Melissa faced Aledo in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Cardinals blew past the Bearcats 15-4. Considering the Cardinals have won 32 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Eloisa Maes tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Finlee Williams was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Bradley, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Melissa's win bumped their record up to 37-1. As for Barbers Hill, their victory bumped their record up to 35-3.
