Softball Recap: Point Loma Sets Scoring Season-High Against El Capitan

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Point Loma). Everything went their way against the El Capitan Vaqueros on Thursday as the Point Loma Pointers made off with an 11-1 win. The Pointers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 15, 2024.

Ella Poulin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Poulin was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Siena Balistreri, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2. Bella Lopez also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Point Loma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

Point Loma pushed their record up to 7-2-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for El Capitan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Coincidentally, Point Loma and El Capitan will both be playing Brawley the next time they take the field. Point Loma will head out to face Brawley at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, while El Capitan will play them later in the day, at 3:00 p.m.
