Baseball Game Preview: Lawrence Cardinals vs. Pennington Red Hawks

The Lawrence Cardinals will face off against the Pennington Red Hawks at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lawrence comes in on three and Pennington on six.

On Wednesday, Lawrence needed a bit of extra time to put away Hamilton. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hornets, sneaking past 6-5. Six seems to be a good number for the Cardinals as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Aiden Poot and Aiden Crowley were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Poot struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Crowley struck out eight batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. At the plate, Poot scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Crowley went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Seneca Sumners, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Pennington got the win against Lawrenceville School on Thursday by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Red Hawks, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Pennington pushed their record up to 6-0-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.4 runs this season. As for Lawrence, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Lawrence came out on top in a nail-biter against Pennington when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
