Basketball Recap: Northeast Academy Comes Up Short

Northeast Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 49-43 heartbreaker at the hands of the Pungo Christian Academy Raiders. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Raiders earlier this season, when they won 51-44.

Allison Sawyer was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 14 boards for Pungo Christian Academy. The match was Sawyer's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Rouse, who posted 11 points in addition to seven steals and five assists.

Northeast Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Pungo Christian Academy, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-13.

When Northeast Academy and Pungo Christian Academy next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Northeast Academy will take on Lawrence Academy and their four-game winning streak at 6:00 p.m. on January 27th. Similarly, Pungo Christian Academy will try to stop Albemarle School's five-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th.
