Preview: West Forsyth Titans vs. Parkland Mustangs
West Forsyth is 8-2 against Parkland since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The West Forsyth Titans will head out on the road to face off against the Parkland Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. West Forsyth is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, West Forsyth was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 53-47 to Davie.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Alexis Waters, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Campbell McClain, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Parkland ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They secured a 61-55 W over Glenn. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Parkland's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Justace Williams, who scored 20 points along with six steals and five rebounds, and Jordan Fisher, who scored 21 points along with two steals. Fisher is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Azari Wilkins was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
West Forsyth's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Parkland, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: West Forsyth have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Parkland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
West Forsyth didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Parkland when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 43-39 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Williams, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will West Forsyth still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
