Softball Recap: Fairlawn Comes Up Short

Fairlawn had lost 13 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it 14. They lost 16-6 to the Anna Rockets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rockets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 last Friday.

Daisey Vondenhuevel made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lilly Cathcart, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Anna, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games.

On Anna's side, Brooklyn Cruse was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. Cruse has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Eva Pleiman was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Izzy Jenkins was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Looking ahead, Fairlawn will take on Jackson Center at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Anna, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 9-6 loss against Versailles on the 18th.
