Basketball Recap: Carol City Comes Up Short

Carol City lost against Killian back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Carol City Chiefs took a blow against the Killian Cougars, falling 56-20. While losing is never fun, the Chiefs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 609th, while the Cougars are ranked 177th).

Several Chiefs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trenia Baker, who posted seven points. That was a full 35% of Carol City's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Killian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leiyah Bain led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten assists. The matchup was Bain's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shamaraja Cummings, who went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points along with eight boards and three blocks.

Carol City's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Killian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.

Carol City will take on North Miami at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Killian has already played their next game, a 49-14 victory against Central on the 28th.
