Baseball Recap: Bennington Extends Road Winning Streak to Six

Bennington is still undefeated this season after their match against Platteview on Monday, but Platteview came as close as anyone has to beating them. Bennington had just enough and edged out Platteview 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Badgers have posted against the Trojans since March 27, 2017.

Brandt Schmidt tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Bennington let Hunter Spencer and Aidan Smith run wild. Spencer scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Smith has posted since back in April of 2024. Carson Kortan was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Bennington pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Platteview, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2.

Looking ahead, Bennington will venture away from home to square off against Gretna East at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
