Softball Recap: Portsmouth Has No Trouble Against North Providence

Portsmouth's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They never let the North Providence Cougars get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Patriots yet this season.

Mia Ruggieri made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Ruggieri was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Lilly Morgado was a standout: she scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kaylyn Aubuchon also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Portsmouth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Providence only posted an OBP of .167.

Portsmouth's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for North Providence, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Portsmouth will welcome Rogers at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. As for North Providence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Warwick at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
