Baseball Recap: Mattamuskeet Takes a Loss

Mattamuskeet had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it six. They lost 18-1 to the Hobgood Charter Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 on Tuesday.

Mattamuskeet saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathaneal She Mmons, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. That RBI marked the first that She Mmons has brought in this season.

As for Hobgood Charter, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Hobgood Charter's side, LUKE LANIER made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). LANIER has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Hobgood Charter got a massive performance out of CONNER ROBERSON, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI ROBERSON has posted since back in March. TREY HARRIS was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Mattamuskeet will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ocracoke at 4:00 p.m. on the 29th. As for Hobgood Charter, they will take on Tarboro in a tournament on Wednesday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
